Types of Intentional Torts:

Damages for Intentional Torts - Personal Injury claims allow for two types of damage awards: compensatory damages and punitive damages.

Battery - A battery is a harmful or offensive contact with another person that is not warranted or justified. 

Assault - An assault is an action that puts another into apprehension of an imminent battery or offensive contact. 

False Imprisonment - The standard case for an action of false imprisonment is use force to keep another in a bounded area.

Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress - To have an action for intentional infliction of emotional distress (IIED), the conduct must be extremely outrageous and repugnant to the common person. 

Trespass to Land - Trespass to land is a physical invasion onto another’s land. 

Trespass to Chattels - A trespass to chattels action involves an intentional interference or invasion to personal property. 

Conversion - Conversion is the intentional tort where the trespass to personal property is so great that the person held liable will have to pay for the entire fair market value of the object that was trespassed. 

Defamation - Defamation involves the communication of a defamatory statement concerning the plaintiff to some third party that results in damages to the plaintiff.  A defamatory statement must cause injuries to the plaintiff’s reputation.
